What is a sunless tan?
A sunless tan is the application of dihydroxyacetone (DHA), an ingredient that when exposed to oxygen reacts with your skins amino acids creating tan colored skin. Think of cutting an apple in half and sitting it down, exposing it to oxygen. Over time the apple turns brown. Sunless tanning is very similar- once sprayed you have to give your skin time to naturally react/ tan.

Your sunless tan has 2 bronzers. One is a cosmetic tint that shows on the surface of your skin after you session. This will wash off in the shower. Second is the DHA or the long lasting bronzer. This bronzer needs to absorb into your skin for at least 4-6 hours in order to fully develop.

Is this a real tan?
No, this is the result of a chemical reaction in your skin.It is a cosmetic tan on the outer layer of your skin and is not a base tan and will not protect you from sunburn. You should apply sunscreen if you are outside for extended periods of time. It can last anywhere from 4-10 days depending on your skin care regimen and activities.

What do I have to do to prepare?
Arrive at the salon freshly showered, shaved and exfoliated. Make sure your skin is free of lotions, deodorant, perfume or anything that may act as a barrier between your skin and the sunless solutions.Wear dark, loose fitting clothes.

What do I have to do afterwards?
Avoid rain. Don't workout or do anything that will make you perspire. This can cause 'drips' while your tan is developing. Avoid tight fitting clothing as it could cause lines. Avoid light colored clothing until your shower because the tint may run off. Usually it will wash right out but some fabrics are not as resistant. Use our after care products which are specially formulated to work with your skin to protect and prolong your sunless tan as long as possible.

How long will it last?
This really depends on several things. Because the sunless tan only affects the outer layer or epidermis of your skin, this is where you need to pay most attention. Make sure to prepare for your sunless tan. Afterwards keep your skin moisturized. Since your skin is naturally turning over new skin cells your sunless tan will fade as your body exfoliates itself. Avoid prolonged baths, swimming pools, saltwater.

A Custom Airbrush Tan is applied by one of our Airbrush Artists. The Mystic Tan Booth is a booth that sprays you. The Mystic Tan Booth is perfect for those wanting privacy.

Anything else I should know?
Yes. The FDA suggests that you wear panties/ underwear, protective eyewear and nose plugs during your session. We have nose plugs and eyewear available.
